. The function was presided over by Sirhind MLA Didar Singh Bhatti.
In his address Rana said that he was working sincerely with SAD before 1992. He said Patiala police raided his house and leveled baseless allegations that he was harbouring militants. He said as he was innocent he met the other senior leaders of SAD to help him but no one came forward to extend any help to him. He said he received help from an unexpected quarter. Senior Congress leader and former Minister Dr Harbans Lal whole heartedly supported him that time. After helping him, Dr Lal inspired him to join Congress and he along with his supporters joined the party and worked together with them for 18 years. But now he decided to rejoin SAD with his 300 supporters. He said during his 18 years he worked with dedication for the party but he felt that dedicated workers are being ignored in the party. He alleged that Congress is not dealing seriously with the persons who are responsible for anti Sikh riots.
Rana said he worked against Didar Singh Bhatti in last Punjab assembly election. He said that Bhatti won the election but he lost from his (Rana) area. He said Bhatti help meetings with him and finally succeed in convincing him to join SAD. Bhatti in his address, while welcoming the rejoining of Rana and his supporters, said that due respect will be given to them in party. He criticized the party on various grounds. He also criticized the Union cabinet, who gave its approval for a caste based census to be implemented through a separate house to house enumeration from June to September next year.
On this occasion Rana and his supporters were honoured by siropas (robe of honour).
Swaran Singh Chanarthal, Chairman, Market Committee, Chanarthal; Gurjant Singh Chalela, District president, NRI unit of SAD, senior SAD leaders Karamjit Singh. Bhagrana, Sharanjit Singh also expressed their views.
